A New Low

Word of the Day
I love a good W.O.D. We'll just see if I have the follow through to keep it up D-ly (let's be honest, it's unlikely). But I thought this one was an appropriate follow up to my last post. (To all my "R" friends [apparently that's what they call 'em here in DC]--please forgive me for my blatantly one-sided liberal bias. But then again, what else would you expect...?)

This Should Be Interesting
Sarah Palin in a nutshell: seriously pro-choice mother of 5, former beauty queen and athlete, served as Mayor of Wasilla (pop. 5,470) in 1996, elected Governor of Alaska in 2006. It oughtta be really, really interesting to see her go up against Joe Biden. You have to hand it to her, the woman looks great--although I will be the first to point out--that Vogue cover looks like she's sticking her head through one of those wooden body paintings with the head holes (for lack of a better description). You know what I'm talking about--they have them at zoos and at Shem Creek in Charleston.
UPDATE: Ok, so it turns out that the Vogue cover is not real. I know, I know--all signs pointed to a photoshop job (mother of 5 with a rack like that?), but I was duped. It's still funny though, so I'll leave it up.

Love. It.

A 12.5-pound two-headed baby born in Bangladesh on Monday, died yesterday--it seems the parents could not afford the cost of medical care.
Holy Gaffe
Bloomberg accidentally published an obituary for Apple CEO Steve Jobs (who, for the record, is not dead). What's worse--the obit revealed that Jobs had secretly battled pancreatic cancer--something that was kept under wraps to protect company stock. Glad that wasn't me who pressed "send."

Bloggers Beware!
A 27 yr old blogger was arrested for leaking the highly-anticipated (really?) "Chinese Democracy" album by Guns n Roses. Seriously, there needs to be a greater effort to teach people about copyright law and consequences if cops are going to start plucking bloggers out of their homes. Don't you think?

After leaving the convention floor, apparently daddy Bill got stuck in an elevator after being mobbed by the press. Scare-ee-ee!

New browsers are making it easier to surf the web discreetly, and I'd say anyone who reads this blog will appreciate that news. Based on the picture that accompanies the article, so will anyone who is interested in purchasing women's ponytails online. Wtf? I'm logging on to Ebay as we speak...

You Know What I Would Have to Say?
Butt the f-ck out! (yeah, I did just use the phrase "butt out"). While I suppose being in the public eye makes that answer problematic for any number of reasons, I just wonder why people don't have more productive ways to spend their time...like keeping up a crap blog, for instance. What am I talking about? People blasting Elizabeth Edwards for the way she handled John's affair:

This bit of news just in from my roomie: over the weekend, a little fawn followed this beagle home--right through the doggie door--in the Bittinger, MD area. The dog's family came home and found the little ones snuggled together on the couch. I HA-WANT that fawn!!!

And now for what REALLY matters in today's world...
Our fledgling economy you say? Gas prices? The war in Iraq? No, no - protecting our sacred families of course!
Choice line: Hirst and her husband, Justin, 33, a high-school Spanish teacher, said they joined the door-knocking Saturday because they don't want their children hearing about gay relationships at school.
God forbid (I mean that!) your children learn something useful and worldly in their schools.

Remember Gasolina? No? Well, neither do I, but that doesn't change the fact that Singer Daddy Yankee has endorsed Senator John McCain for President. McCain held a press conference at an Arizona high school to celebrate the momentous occasion.

Miss Sister
Seriously, what has the world come to? An Italian priest is holding "Miss Sister 2008," a beauty pageant for nuns to show the world that they're not all old spinsters.

Truly Horrifying...
A San Antonio couple has been charged for offering sex with their 5-year old daughter in exchange for an apartment, a used car, and child care (seriously, at this point, why do you give two sh-ts about child "care"?)
According to the affidavit, the girl's mother "was of the belief that these sexual interactions would be a positive experience for (her daughter) and that [the mother] would receive sexual gratification" from watching.

PS, This woman says she's single and divorced. Huh. Go figure.

Reasons #3, 4 and 5
To watch Generation Kill . Since the finale aired tonight, I'm gonna stop at 5, but trust me when I say there are about 20 more good reasons to watch (on top of the fact that it's an awesome show)...

4.Pawel Szajda

5. Jon Huertas

I Ha-need That Formula
A Wisconsin couple who have each won the lottery two times (that's a grand total of 4 times, for anyone who, like me, is mathematically challenged) claims to have a mathematic formula for selecting winning numbers. At least one noted mathematician dismisses the claim as impossible. Either way, winning the lottery 4 times is pretty hamazing.

Jesus of the Week
In keeping with the theme of today (the Lord's day) here is the Jesus of the week (from www.jesusoftheweek.com, appropriately enough):
No. J2K8-24

Kapow!
(That was the sound of this week's Jesus blowing my mind.)
I've got double Jesus vision!
See, disciples, there's a little Jesus inside all of us. There's even a little Jesus inside Jesus. In this case, He's inside Jesus's face.
Thank you to disciple John for sending us this double trouble Christ, and for adding the note: "If the little Jesus gets off His 'ass' it will look like the big Jesus is talking."
Tee hee. It's a double meaning.
Prepare to be shocked...
I went to church this morning, and enjoyed it! It was a liberal Unitarian church, and the message of the day was the importance of gender equality. The sermon referenced a number of outside sociological and anthropological texts to explain the historic subjugation of women(and the significance of overcoming it), and it even discussed the days of goddess worship.
They also gave me a snack-sized bag of Cheez-its.
